O Castro Recreational Area
History, nature and leisure within the walls
This recreational area is a leisure and nature spot of particular mention due to its unique historical and cultural value, as it is located within the walls of an ancient castro, while also offering modern facilities. These types of prehistoric settlements are essential to understand human history and interaction with the environment in the Geopark.
This space is designed for the whole family to enjoy and has a wooded area equipped with tables and benches, a playground, a sports court and swimming pools. It also houses the O Castro Social and Cultural Centre (a former school dating from 1933, with a café and library). From here, you can also stroll along the banks of the river Pontellas and discover river mills and a wooden walkway designed to respect the surrounding wildlife.
