The A Frouxeira lagoon and sand dunes form a unique and highly valuable natural enclave. This area, protected as a wetland of international importance (Ramsar site), forms part of the "Costa Ártabra" Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and the "Costa de Ferrolterra - Valdoviño" Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA).
The lagoon is a crucial ornithological ecosystem, which serves as a resting place for migratory birds and a breeding ground for species such as the mallard. Fed by the rivers Vilar and Castro and separated from the sea by a sand dune system, its variable salinity creates a diverse habitat for flora and fauna, which includes otters.
A footpath allows visitors to observe birds and enjoy this natural environment of great biodiversity.
